No specific skills are needed, though having a good sense of rhythm and manual dexterity are helpful. Flagging is predominantly hand work, not foot work.
That's up to you. How good would you like to be? A schedule for regular monthly workshops is being created (check out the EVENTS page). Tutorial videos are posted on this site so you can practice at home whenever it works for you. You can also contact PhilipBikes7@gmail.com if you'd like to discuss personal one-on-one instruction.
To start with, something comfortable to wear that allows freedom of movement. You will also need the proper flags. Resources for obtaining these are HERE.
We have a limited number of loaner flags, reserved for beginners. You should have your own flags if you plan on participating past the first 2-3 workshops.
We do have loaner flags but these are reserved for beginners. If you plan on participating past the first 2-3 workshops, you should purchase your own set of properly weighted, silk flags. These generally run about $120-150/set. Resources for obtaining these are HERE.
Please see me privately if you are genuinely interested in flagging but cost is a prohibiting factor.
Regular practice is required to build skills and develop an adept flagging tribe. Attendance at workshops is not required but, practice makes perfect. At this time, anyone can attend workshops and no one is being asked to "officially" join the Garden Island Flaggers.
We do request the following commitments:
1) learn the proper, basic techniques of flagging
2) purchase a personal set of flags if you plan to participate more than 2-3 times
3) participate in at least some of the workshops
